PROFIL

 Die ophthalmologische Praxis von Dr. J. C. Vryghem ist hauptsächlich im Bereich der Kataraktchirurgie und der refraktiven Chirurgie und cornea Chirurgie tätig.

 Er legt besonderen Wert darauf, die neuesten chirurgischen Techniken einzusetzen und seinen Patienten zur Verfügung zu stellen.

 Sein Ziel ist es, zum Fortschritt der Technologie beizutragen, und er erscheint regelmäßig in den Programmen der entsprechenden belgischen, europäischen und amerikanischen Kongresse.

 Er hat bereits diverse wissenschaftliche Treffen organisiert, sowie drei "chirurgische Live-Sitzungen" für den jährlichen, belgischen Kongress (Ophthalmologia Belgica 1999) und den jährlichen europäischen Kongress (European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons 2000) unter Teilnahme von prominenten Chirurgen aus Belgien und anderen europäischen Ländern. Er wird regelmäßig als Vortragender zu nationalen und internationalen Konferenzen eingeladen.

 As member of the comity direction, Dr. J.C. Vryghem organised as well, a session of "Life Surgery" from the St Jean hospital in Brussels for the BSCRS Winter Meeting on the 26th of January 2008.  Zwischen 1995 und 2001 ist er Vizepräsident der Belgischen Gesellschaft für Katarakt- und refraktive Chirurgie gewesen.

 Dr. Vryghem war Leiter der ophthalmologischen Abteilung der Klinik St-Jean in Brüssel seit 1996.

 Er ist verantwortlich für die Ausbildung der Fachkräfte der ophthalmologischen Abteilung des Universitätskrankenhauses in Leuven (K.U.Leuven) und war seit 1993 an der Ausbildung von sechzehn Ophthalmologen beteiligt. Er war von 1986 bis 1994 als akademischer Berater am Universitätskrankenhaus in Leuven (K.U.Leuven) tätig und ist heute ehrenamtlicher akademischer Berater.

 Dr. Vryghem ist ein Mitglied des Laser Refractie Centrum in St-Martens-Latem (unweit von Gent) seit 1996, wo alle Eingriffe der refraktiven Chirurgie ausgeführt werden (LASIK, Phakic implantierte Kontaktlinsen, etc.).

 Seit August 2002 operiert Dr. Vryghem in seiner eigenen chirurgischen Praxis am Boulevard Saint-Michel 12-16, 1150 Brüssel, mit dem neuesten WaveLight Allegretto Wave Excimer-Laser Eye-Q 400.  In May 2003 Dr . Vryghem’s Eye Centre was selected to become a Beta-Site by the WaveLight Laser Technologie company. The Beta-Sites consist of exclusive refractive surgery centres throughout the world and their doctors enjoy an excellent reputation in the field of refractive surgery. The other Beta-Sites are located in Köln (Germany), Dublin (Ireland), Athens (Greece), London (U.K.), Curitipa (Brazil), Brisbane (Australia), Vancouver (Canada) and Singapore. These centres will be the first to have access to the latest technology and will be responsible for advanced training of other WaveLight users.

 Dr. Vryghem has developed special skills for retreatment of patients who have been dissatisfied with the results of their initial refractive laser surgery because of decentration, irregular treatment, flap problems, etc. He is one of the first surgeons in the world to have used the new WaveLight T-CAT software for topography-guided ablations. He presented his experience on the subject in 2003 and 2004 at congresses in Munich (Germany), Brussels, Liège, Amsterdam (the Netherlands), San Diego (USA), Paris (France), Vught (the Netherlands) and Sevilla (Spain).

 Dr. Vryghem was the first eye doctor in Belgium to introduce 2 new techniques in corneal surgery. In December 2005 he started off with Ultra-Violet Crosslinking, a method that aims to stabilise keratoconus. In June 2006, he introduced Descemet Stripping and Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK), a technique designed to avoid a full cornea transplantation (Penetrating Keratoplasty) for those patients who don't see anymore because of cornea oedema.  In October 2006, Dr. Vryghem participated, as first refractive surgeonen in Belgium, Femto-LASIK surgeries (FemtoLASIK). It concerns a LASIK treatment that can make the flap without a knife, but with a femtosecond laser : the treatment is more precise and the flap is thinner with a more prévisible thickness.  Dr Vryghem has been invited to perform Live Surgery at the "ESCRS" in Berlin in September 2008 and at the IXth meeting "Modern Technologies of Cataract and Refractive Surgery" in Moscow in October 2008.

 Dr Vryghem is invited to co-chair the latest technologies session on the 13th of November 2008 at the "UKISCRS" Annual Meeting in Brighton (United Kingdom).
